Big Parade
The Summer Festival Committee would like to remind everyone that The Big Parade will be held on Sunday, July 5th, 2009 and begins at 1:00pm in Michigan City, Indiana. The parade route starts at Franklin & 10th Streets and continues down Franklin Street to Ames Field. The Grand Marshalls of the parade will be Mike Pease, Drum Corps International Chairman and Parade Marshall will be Courtney Brinckman, 2009 Graduate with Distinction of Michigan City High School. Some of the featured participants in the 2009 parade are the 8 Drum & Bugle Corps groups, the Culver Military Academy units which include (the Woodcraft Camp Drum & Bugle Corps, Camp Indian Dancers, English Program for Speakers of Other Languages, Summer Cavalry School Color Guard, Summer School of Aviation Drill Team, Summer School for Girls Honor Guard, and the Summer Naval School Band). In addition Miss New Buffalo, as well as the 2009 Blossom Time Festival Royalty Float from Benton Harbor, Michigan will be riding in the parade. Another highlight of the parade includes Norfolk Southern's "Train Your Brain" railroad crossing safety awareness mascot, "Brainy." Brainy will remind people to "Train Your Brain" to be smart at railroad crossings. And finally, also new this year, Andy Linder, World Footbag (Hacky Sack) Champion will be performing his stunts down the parade route.
