Washington Park Zoo offers exciting non-paying internship opportunities in a variety of fields. The Zoo is a unique environment where interns can participate in hands on activities and gain valuable experience in a zoo setting. These internship programs offer the opportunity to learn about Zoos and animal care and the chance to obtain some entry level experience. All interns are required to have a TB test done. The test must be negative and must have been done within the last 6 months prior to starling the internship program. The test will be conducted at the intern's own expense.
Marketing Research Intern- This is a non paid internship opportunity. Under supervision of the Zoo Director this intern will assist in researching available grant and fundraising opportunities, assist in grant writing, planning coordinating and implementing fundraising projects. They will also assist in seeking event sponsor relationships that will provide monetary donations, in kind gifts or participation at no charge at zoo events.
Animal Husbandry Intern- This is a non paid internship opportunity.
Under supervision of the Zoo Curators this intern will assist zookeepers in cleaning, feeding and caring for the animal collection. The intern will develop an understanding of animal behaviors, maintenance care and diets of an assortment of animals.
Horticulture Intern- This is a non paid internship opportunity
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Operations Manager this
intern will design and maintain the zoos flower beds. Replenishing the soil as needed, transplanting and dividing plants for relocation.
