Kiddie Parade
Each year on the Friday before the Fourth of July, the Michigan City Police Department, in partnership with several generous individuals and businesses around the community, hosts a Kiddie Parade for kids ages 0-12, pets and community groups. A healthy snack is provided during the judging before the parade, and trophies and ribbons are awards by a host of celebrity judges. The parade travels from 7th Street down Franklin Square to 4th Street, ending at the Michigan City Public Library. After the parade, hotdogs, chips, drinks and frozen treats are provided to all participants and their parents.
Categories for the judging are:
- Costumed individuals ages 0-5 years old
- Costumed individuals ages 6-12 years old
- Decorated wagons
- Decorated bikes
- Pets (with a costumed individual)
- Organized groups (school/church or day-care/neighborhood) under 15 members
- Organized groups (school/church or day-care/neighborhood) over 15 members
